Abstract
A mathematical model is developed to understand how voids form under tubes in fluidized beds. Gas flow in the fluidized bed is assumed to be governed by Darcy's law and the void is assumed to be an inviscid fluid. Two cases are considered depending on whether there is gas flow through the void boundary.
