General Information
All of the main business, including coffees, lunches, and teas,
will take place within the Holland Complex. Only breakfast and dinner are elsewhere.
For those staying beyond Friday afternoon and wishing to take lunch or
dinner in Pollock Halls, meal tickets can be purchased at the bar.
The Pollock Halls Bar is open from 11.00 to 23.00 (until midnight if there
is sufficient demand) daily.
Library Facilities
Participants who wish to use the main library of Edinburgh University,
located in George Square, can register at the desk there. For books
to be found elsewhere in Edinburgh, e.g. in the library of the
James Clerk Maxwell Building, and not available at George Square, please
ask one of the locals.
Computing Facilities
PC's are to be found in the Holland microlab. This will be open
until 18.00 each day. A number of passwords will be issued to the
Study Group participants.
Fax and Telephone
For incoming messages for participants, the Pollock Halls switchboard
telephone number is 0131-667 1971 and the fax number is 0131-668 3217.
For official Study Group use, there will be a telephone in the foyer
of the Holland Complex.
There is also a payphone.
Photocopying
A photocopier will be available in the Reception Centre.
Post Office, Local Shops, and Banks
There are cash machines both in Pollock Halls and at the neighbouring
Commonwealth Pool. A variety of shops, as well as banks and a post office
can be found on Salisbury Place and Newington Road. (Go west along
Salisbury Road from the Physician & Firkin to the next crossroads.)
Luggage
Luggage can be left at the Reception Centre where there is a lockable room.
Parking
Parking is available on site and nearby on. On-site parking
requires a permit which can be obtained from Reception.

Shopping
Larger shops can be found on and close to Princes Street.
Taxis
Edinburgh has a plentiful supply of taxis. Firms include City Cabs
(tel. 228 1211) and Central Radio Taxis (tel. 229 2468). Taxis can be
ordered from the Reception Centre (there is a free 'phone).
