Abstract
This problem concerns the conversion of raw anthracite into calcined anthracite in a cylinder that is heated by Joule heating. Of particular interest was determining whether any thermal runaway occurs due to the electrical properties being temperature dependent. The investigation concentrated on coupling the thermal and electrical behaviour and granular-flow effects were neglected.
